SUGAR is the enemy

Between traditional coffee or morning tea, daily gourmet breaks, and industrialized prepared meals, sugar is everywhere in our diet! In sweet products of course, but also in other unsweetened ones! (soups, bread, bread, gherkins, cookies, ketchup, tomato sauce, sausages, sauces, vinaigrette, balsamic vinegar, bouillon cubes, rusks, prepared dishes, frozen …). Thus, almost all of our current consumption of sweet (80%) comes from processed products, most often in the form of glucose, fructose or glucose-fructose syrup.

You do not have to be a scientist to notice the harmful effects of sweet foods and sugary drinks on children or adults. Indeed, scientific data show its terrible effects on health, when consumed in excess: overweight, metabolic disorders with explosion of diabetes cases, inflammatory diseases, cardiovascular risk, caries … With a desire to have some more again and again.

This “sugar addiction” is also well maintained by the food industry, which does not hesitate to overload its refined sugar products, most often without our knowledge. To enhance the taste, preserve, soften, crisp, color, improve the texture, ferment … manufacturers consider adding sugar essential. And what if that was to make us addicted? Indeed, it is shown that the more sugar consumed, the less the dopamine receptors on which it acts, giving us this sensation of pleasure, are reactive; it will therefore be necessary to increase the quantities! Additionally sugar causes our blood glucose or blood sugar levels to go up, which causes the well-known “hypo effect” when the blood sugar drops down again with a feeling of unease and cravings of sweetness. A vicious circle !

Our daily consumption of sugar, because yes it is really everywhere, produces in our body a permanent excess of acidity. To correct this imbalance the body will always draw more minerals and calcium from the bones and teeth that will lead to a weakening and general deterioration. In the end, it is each organ of the body that will eventually be affected by this excess, including the brain.

Cancer

This real public health problem has been the subject of a nine-year joint research project. This study provided a crucial breakthrough in cancer research. Scientists have clarified how the Warburg effect, a phenomenon in which cancer cells rapidly break down sugars, stimulates tumor growth.

This discovery provides evidence of a positive correlation between sugar and cancer, which can have deep implications on tailored diets for cancer patients. The research results were published in October 2017 in the scientific journal Nature Communications. This does not concern sugars found in vegetables and fresh fruits nor those naturally present in milk since there is still no data showing that they have harmful effects on health.

This research reveals how overactive sugar consumption of cancer cells leads to a vicious cycle of continuous stimulation of cancer development and growth. These results also explain the correlation between the strength of the Warburg effect and tumor aggressiveness. This link between sugar and cancer has serious consequences. The results provide a foundation for future research in this area, which can now be done with much more precise and relevant attention.
