The oral cavity is often overlooked, being considered less important than the other organs.
However, a great deal of medical research shows that the condition of the mouth is vital to our health.
The mouth is the mirror of the body!
The mouth reflects 90 percent of systemic diseases throughout the body and is where many of the earliest symptoms of systemic disease can be seen.
A patient may not even realize that a dentist can suggest certain diseases when examining a patient. Let’s talk about this in more detail.
More than 1,000 people are diagnosed with oral cancer every year just in Switzerland. Unfortunately, in most cases, it is detected too late (at stage 3 or 4) with a survival rate of only 40%. Early detection of the disease increases the survival rate to 80-90%.
Sleep apnea increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. 50% of people with hypertension have this problem. 70% of patients with coronary artery disease have obstructive sleep apnea. A dentist can diagnose this condition.
Some diseases of the mouth, such as paradontosis, affect the body greatly, sometimes aggravating other diseases:
- Paradontosis increases the risk of cardiovascular disease by 20%.
- Patients with moderately severe periodontal disease have up to a 50% increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. At high severity, the risk increases to almost 100%.
- Toxins released by bacteria normally present in the oral cavity have been found in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients. Whereas these same toxins are not detected in healthy brains.
- Periodontal disease can be associated with an exacerbation of chronic lung disease in the elderly.
- Pregnant women with periodontal disease have an average of 8 times the risk of preterm birth.
- Periodontal disease increases the risk of infertility in men. In women, the disease lengthens the period needed to become pregnant.
- 76% of patients with oral and pharyngeal cancer have periodontal disease.
- Periodontal disease increases the risk of pancreatic cancer by 63%
- Patients with periodontal disease have a 2-fold higher risk of developing chronic kidney disease.
- Periodontal disease often begins in the 20s, and then progresses gradually without treatment. 50% of people between the ages of 35 and 50 may be affected to some degree by periodontal disease. Over the age of 60 this figure reaches 80%!
- Bacteria, germs and pro-inflammatory molecules travel from the gums into the bloodstream, causing various diseases
- Well, in addition to its connection to systemic diseases, periodontal disease is also a major cause of tooth loss.
DENTAL CHECK-UP :
Our dental check-up will identify diseases of the mouth, teeth, gums and mucosa at any stage of the disease, even at the earliest stage when it is not yet obvious.
Our diagnosis includes :
- A detailed medical history
- Blood analysis
- Examination by a dentist using 3 different chambers, including cancer prevention
- Radiographic exam
- Respiratory Holter (if needed)
The results of the examination will give us an understanding of your current health status.
DENTAL TREATMENT:
Gum treatment for periodontal disease
First, our dentist performs a complete antibacterial disinfection, which allows us to completely get rid of bacteria in the mouth in one session without anesthesia or antibiotics. For this, our dentist uses a combination technique with ultrasound, diode laser, hydroxyapatite fluid, ozone generator, and growth factor plasma subdermal syringes.
